What makes microwave sensing superior to traditional approaches? Weather conditions, low visibility and many other variables can interfere with the performance of commonplace optical, laser and infrared sensors. Microwave radar signals, however, propagate through the atmosphere unaffected by rain, blizzards or clouds, and they work at any time of day or night. Microwave sensors more accurately determine distance and speed with high resolution. Past microwave remote sensors were too big for anything but large aircraft to carry their bulk. Aerotenna has redesigned the microwave sensing system to create compact microwave sensors with miniaturized antennas, RF circuits and signal processors that meet strict payload and power limitations of smaller UAVs.
UAV-BORNE REMOTE SENSING
Traditionally, UAVs carry optical, laser and infrared sensors, which require perfect visibility and atmospheric conditions to accurately image and map the land below. Microwave sensors perform in any weather and at any time of day or night, all while outperforming traditional sensors in accuracy. Aerotenna’s microwave imaging system compatible with smaller aircrafts utilizes miniaturized microwave sensors that can collect more data over larger areas of land, regardless of the time of day or weather conditions. Aircrafts equipped with Aerotenna’s microwave imaging sensors not only map the topography of the ground, but can also penetrate the surface to perform surveys. These subsurface surveys can be used for soil moisture analysis and buried pipeline detection, among other possibilities.
SOC FPGA-BASED FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEMS
Aerotenna was the first to introduce the SoC FPGA-based flight control solution to address the needs in flying “smart drones” with more sensing and processing capabilities. The SoC FPGA, functioning as the brain of the smart drone, provides clear advantages over the microcontroller unit (MCU) in terms of processing power and I/O capability. FPGA logic also enables sensor fusion, real-time data processing and deep learning, while freeing up the CPU to perform high-level decision making and flight control.
Aerotenna’s all-in-one system provides state-of-the-art miniaturized microwave sensors seamlessly integrated with trajectory adjustment algorithms for active sensing and obstacle collision avoidance, unleashing your drone to achieve safe and reliable autonomous flying.
