Sundance Engineering Development Kit – Virtex-5 EDK
The SMT900 is the first specific EDK (Engineering Development Kit) that Sundance has released.
It is comprised of an SMT111 TIM motherboard, coupled with an SMT351T-SX50.
The SMT111 is a single site stand alone 12V (power supply supplied with each unit) USB TIM motherboard. It has a variety of I/O options all of which can be used with the EDK.
The SMT351T provides a ‘Base’ module for a range of applications and functions. The Virtex 5 SXT has the highest amount of DSP blocks in the Virtex 5 range, and the FPGA also has direct access to 512MBytes of DDRII RAM per bank. This will provide storage for the majority of applications. The addition of a Xilinx configuration PROM enables the module to be used ‘Stand-Alone’. Alternatively, FPGA configuration can be made from a Xilinx platform USB cable, or an alternative 3rd party JTAG controller.
The Virtex 5 SXT is connected to two RSL connectors for high speed data transfer (up to 3.2GB/s), and the 3x 20-way Sundance Local Bus (SLB) connector has 36 pairs of Low Voltage Differential Signals that can be interfaced over a long distance to some external control equipment, or act as an interface to an SLB mezzanine module.
This combination allows rapid development and possibility of adding extra SLB modules to enhance your designs, for applications that include ADC, DAC, MiMo as an example.
The software support is via the SMT6048 and uses the SMT111’s on-board USB controller.
