VCS³ 3D Kit: The LIVE Series
All of the livestreams in one place
Software engineer, Andrew Wilson, has been busy demonstrating the VCS³ 3D Kit. So far, he has given three live demonstrations exploring the capabilities of the kit. With more planned in the future, stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming demonstrations.
Find all of Andrew’s livestreams all in one place.
1. AMD FPGA Bring-Up & Processor Hello World
2. AMD FPGA Camera Processing Pipeline
3. U-Boot USB TFTP BOOT (PetaLinux)
AMD FPGA Bring-Up & Processor Hello World
A demonstration bringing up the FPGA system in Vivado and demonstrating a ‘Hello World’ application on the MicroBlaze-V soft RISC-V processor, along with the ARM R5 and A53 cores. Also looking at basic performance benchmarks and system temperature telemetry.
AMD FPGA Camera Processing Pipeline
A demonstration bringing up a full camera pipeline in Vivado, starting right from the raw CSI-2 sensor signals and walking through each stage in the PL – Bayer demosaic, gamma LUT, and colour-space conversion. See the pipeline live, poke the blocks interactively, and watch how the image changes as it flows through the hardware.
U-Boot USB TFTP BOOT (PetaLinux)
A demonstration of USB CDC-ECM network boot using U-Boot and PetaLinux on the VCS³ 3D Kit. By enabling the USB CDC-ECM gadget in U-Boot, the board will appear to host PC as a virtual Ethernet device, allowing the Linux kernel and device tree to be loaded directly over USB using TFTP – no SD card or flash required. Since the VCS³ 3D Kit primarily relies on JTAG, UART, and USB for loading Linux, see how this approach can bypass the need for an external USB-to-Ethernet dongle and instead use the built-in USB connection as a network interface.
Sundance VCS³ 3D Kit
The Sundance VCS³ 3D Kit is a compact, ready-to-assemble embedded vision system designed for rapid prototyping, education, and advanced development. Built around the powerful VCS³ Core (AMD Zynq UltraScale+MPSoC), the kit combines ARM processing with FPGA acceleration for real-time vision and control tasks.
The VCS³ 3D Kit demonstrates the VCS³ Core’s compact size and performance in video processing applications. Measuring just 30mm x 50mm, this tiny workhorse can be placed almost anywhere, opening up the benefits of FPGAs to many more applications. The VCS³ 3D Kit also includes dual camera modules, a 10.1″ high-resolution display, a VCS³ RP2040 co-processor board, and a complete set of 3D-printed mounts, enclosures, and cables, enabling users to quickly assemble a fully functional stereoscopic vision system.
Ideal for machine vision, robotics, sensor fusion, and FPGA-accelerated computing, the VCS³ 3D Kit offers a professional-grade platform in a compact, desktop-friendly form factor – perfect for labs, developers, and innovators pushing beyond traditional single-board computers.
